These days most camera manufacturer have a camera of most types and budget.
When it comes down to pick and choose a particular camcorder, it is often personal preference. Although the features are similar throughout the board, a particular manufacturer has a larger advertising budget and highlights a certain feature in a way that they are the only ones who have it. Bad points are not mentioned, leaving the impression it is the best camera and best value.
So my advice is, if you like a certain feature, take the time to shop around and read reviews of the competitors.

In my experience as a repairer I have noticed that these days most manufacturers enhance specifications and have flash small packing for their products. Quality and reliability of the different brands is similar which makes it even more difficult to pick the right one. In my opinion, it is the support when things go wrong, which can make the difference. Well known camcorder manufacturer usually have a good part and repair network in place as well.
Other brands don't leave you any other choice other than send it to manufacturer service when things go wrong.
